Rosh Hashanah Jewish Themes

Leviticus 23:24-25 And Yahuweh spake unto Moses, saying, 24Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. 25Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yahuweh.
This day is celebrated as the birthday of the world, and of the human race. This is a day of remembrance. This phrase recurs throughout the season: Remember us unto life, for You, O King, delight in life; inscribe us in the Book of Life, for Your (name) sake, O God of life.
This greeting is exchanged among Jews: May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.
This is a season of reflection on your life of the last year. Not only unto God, how we can live better, but also to man, people that we have wrong. This is the time of reconciliation. This ten days starting with Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) the High Holy Days. Stressing the fear (yare) reverence of God, referred also as Yamim Noraim (the ‘Days of Awe’). A time to face up to mistakes, resentments, and a day of new beginnings all are apart of this feast. This is one prayer from Rosh Hashanah Musaf (additional service): The great shofar is sounded; a gentle whisper is heard; the angels, quaking with fear, declare: ‘The day of judgement is here to bring the hosts of heaven to justice!’ Indeed, even they are not guiltless in Thy sight. All mankind passes before Thee like a flock of sheep. As a shepherd seeks out his flock, making his sheep pass under his rod, so dost Thou make all the living souls pass before Thee; Thou dost count and number Thy creatures, fixing their lifetime and inscribing their destiny.
There is also the theme of the coronation of the king; at the beginning of the year God is crown as king. There are a series of other benedictions like this: Let us think of the forces that rule our lives, the currents of instinct and longing which rises from the depths of our being, the tides of ambition and desire which sweep away our will, the little waves of habit and routine in which our vision drowns – yet Yahuweh is greater than these, and His still small voice louder then their roaring. On the New Year we acknowledge Him as king; may He reign over us and within us.
I have only touched on these Holiday themes. Take these ideas into the New Covenant we are not that far apart in idea or the teachings of Yahushua and the Apostles.
Father we thank You for understanding that we are bought and brought into the Commonwealth of Israel by the blood of Yahuweh who saves, Yahushua the Messiah (Jesus the Christ) Halle lu YAH!
